Support to the Mongolia's Energy Sector for: a) Implementation of an Energy Conservation Programme and Rational Use of Energy in Mongolian Industry, and b) Use of Natural and Renewable Energy Sources in isolated Rural Areas - Mongolia

Type of Services

  • survey of the energy efficient equipment available in Mongolia;
  • organisation of training courses on energy efficiency;
  • feasibility studies on wind/diesel on mini hydro/diesel power plant for rural electrification;
  • demonstration projects.

Description

The main aim of this project was to provide the Ministry of Infrastructure of Mongolia with defined and variable renewable energy pilot projects and to attract and enhance renewable energy manufacturing joint ventures, in the fields of mini hydro power stations, wind energy and solar photovoltaic systems. In particular, support was provided for the implementation of an energy conservation programme and rational use of energy in industry, and for the use of natural and renewable energy sources in isolated rural areas. The most important activities conducted were:

  • development of a feasibility study for a mini hydro power plant to supply electricity to a soum centre;
  • development of a feasibility study for a 100 kW wind power plant to supply electricity to a soum centre;
  • development of two pilot projects for 5 kW hybrid wind / PV / diesel power plants on selected soums;
  • theoretical training courses on renewable energy technologies and organisation of study tours in Europe.
