Energy management for textile plants & Effluent recycling and control: Training programmes, Mauritius

Type of Services

LDK undertook the II. Training Programme: Effluents, process optimisation and cleaner technologies. The training programme involved four morning sessions for theoretical classes, each of four hours duration and two in-plant training/interventions. The basic theme of the seminars included the following:
• General Presentation of Textiles Processing and Effluent Sources
• Textile effluent: Effluent Characteristics. Water conservation and Recycling Opportunities
• Textile effluent: (i) Preliminary Treatment, (ii) Biological Treatment, (iii) Tertiary Treatment for recycling
• Textile effluent: Typical Design example of a Textile effluent Treatment Plant

Description

The main objective of this training programme was primarily to enable the trainees from industries, the Clothing Technology Centre (CTC), and the Ministry, to acquire new knowledge in energy management issues, as well as reinforce and consolidate local process optimisation practices in the area of textile effluent minimisation and related treatment. The programme was geared towards textile and garment manufacturing firms. It encompassed basic concepts and practical solutions designed to sharpen the competitive edge of the enterprises within a sustainable environment.
The direct beneficiaries of the project were the small & medium enterprises opening in the textiles sector.
More specifically, the project aimed at covering the following modules:
1) Energy management
- Various forms of energy
- Energy assessment in boiler room and its distribution pipework
- Energy management in plants
2) Effluents, process optimisation & cleaner technologies
- Review of wet process
- Chemicals and Dye Stuff, eco friendly products
- Environmental policy, Legislation & Regulations
- Effluent treatment
- Environmental issues related to energy consumption
- Energy assessments of dye plants
- Energy recovery from aqueous effluents and wastewater- Control parameters
