Description
The aim of the project was to develop an Environmental Management Plan which would form a practical strategy for attaining and maintaining water and air quality objectives in the river catchment area. This plan would have been the base for the necessary actions to improve the environmental quality of the river basin.
The condition of the aquatic, terrestrial and atmospheric environment of River Mesta and its basin were examined and evaluated during this study. An assessment was made of pollution loads affecting the area. Following the results of that assessment and evaluation, a number of scenarios for the environmental management of the area and the control of pollution were prepared and analysed. In the final part of the report measures were put forward to ensure the protection of all three receptors (water, land, air) from pollution and the attainment of the required quality standards in the river’s catchment area.
