Services provided by LDK included:
- Elaboration of a report on industries operating in Cyprus subject to the national IPPC Law and Directive 96/91/EC/IPPC, comparing current technology with the proposed technology in BREFs, as well as analysis of suggestions for measures to be taken for full compliance with IPPC;
- Preparation of draft permit conditions for the above industries, based on the analysis of measures for full compliance with IPPC.

Description

The project referred to the provision of consultancy services for the implementation of legislation regarding Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC), as well as the harmonization of the national standards with the respective IPPC Directive in Cyprus. During the project following tasks were fulfilled:
1. An evaluation of the current situation in Cyprus was performed along with a definition of the environmental impacts originating from industries, under the Directive 96/91/EC (IPPC) and the national legislation for its implementation. Furthermore, the study conducted an evaluation of the implementation of Best Available Techniques (BATs) in the fields of waste production and waste management, energy utilisation, use of water and other resources, hazards, noise vibration, odours, environmental management systems, etc.2. A study of reference documents Best Available Techniques (BREFs) and IPPC permits from at least three other European countries was produced, in respect to every sector of industry examined.
3. A comparison was elaborated between the state of each industry sector and the BREFs practices, along with respective suggestions, identification of shortcomings, and proposals of necessary measures for harmonization of the national legislation with the IPPC Directive.
4. A draft Waste Disposal Permits was prepared according to Laws 56(I)/2003 and 106(I)/2002 and their amendments.
