Description
The project concerns the design of mechanical and electrical installations of the Olympic Village in Athens.
The Olympic Village, the largest of all the Olympic works, is the most expansive housing project ever undertaken in Greece. It is located at the base of Parnitha mountain, close to the centre of Athens and covers an area of 1,240,000 m2. The project incorporates bioclimatic designs to maintain an average temperature of three degrees lower, and incorporates ecological building materials.
Upon completion of the Olympic Games in 2004, the Worker's Housing Organisation (OEK), which was responsible for the construction of the project under the Olympic Village SA, modified the interior of the apartments in accordance with current housing programmes that accommodated thousands of beneficiaries of OEK.
The Residential Zone during the Olympic Games, which is by and large the same area as the General Housing Area after the Olympic Games (according to the approved Urban Plan), includes 366 blocks of 2,292 apartments for the athletes, as well as public utility facilities, like recreational centres, halls, religious centres, a polyclinic, training facilities etc.
