Description
The objective of this project was to review and propose the Greek Public Power Corporation's (PPC) optimal strategy for bidding for inter-connector capacity, which is organised by the Hellenic Transmission System Operator (DESMIE). The strategy determined was clearly important for the commercial position of PPC, both in the short and long term, since the capacity purchased by PPC determines:
- the opportunities that PPC shall have to import electricity to meet its customers` demands as an alternative to own generation, where it is cost effective;
- the potential scale for competing suppliers to use imports as a means of meeting consumer demand.
The project study was distinguished in two parts. The first component reviewed the bidding framework and the relevant key issues, while the second component estimated the value of the capacity to PPC, as well as the potential market value of the capacity, in terms of the likely value of the capacity to other participants.
