Type of Services
Provided services included the conduction of a detailed environmental impact assessment study.
Description
The project referred to an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Study for a new unit to be located in the industrial area of Elefsina, west of the Athens greater area. The unit's activity is the integrated management of electrical waste (e.g. refrigerators, freezers), according to EU Directives 95/2002 and 96/2002 and Greek Law 2939 regarding environmental management of waste electric and electronic equipment.
The system processes refrigerators and separates CFCs contained in the foam insulation (polyurethane) through specialised processing. In a closed system CFCs are separated, recovered and stored as condensed liquids and finally reused by chemical industry. The rest of materials are separated into different fractions, such as ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals (aluminium, copper), plastics and polyurethane (dust), through a process that includes drying and separation techniques.
